A mention of Alano in polish book about dogs, year 1957 L. Smyczynski “PSY rasy i wychiwanie “. Part of the book dedicated to Dogos. We can read there:
Southern Dogos
Having described English combat dogs it falls to mention that there exist dogs, similar to mastiffs – but not as uniform – breed also in Italy known as Mediolan Dogos and in Spain (Extramedura and Andalusia) known as Alano. This dogs didn’t reach us at all. Both this breeds seam to not be known outside their homeland.
While more prevalent on continent, and through Germany coming to us before War dogs of same type Dogue de Bordeaux.
